These clients wanted to fit a lot of features into their compact backyard. Not only did they have a lovely oak that we wanted to preserve, but they also had a flock of chickens they wanted to share the space with. We divided up the human living from the chicken living with a hogwire fence. Then, neat and tidy as a puzzle, we popped in an-L-shaped paver patio from the backdoor to accommodate a pergola. In the nook of the paver patio, we wedged in a flagstone patio to hold the firetable and Adirondack lounge chairs. For fun, we layered in the homeowner’s planting troughs along the hogwire fence. We filled the surrounding area with a CA native garden.
