A great project to stretch our 3D design skills! We had a total “do over” of a dated backyard with a dangerous wooden deck/stairs out the back sliders, plus tall retaining walls that chopped the area into many levels.
We repositioned the gathering spaces to the side of the backyard, which allowed the addition of a small lawn for the kids to play. We added hogwire fencing to separate the upper level from the lower level, while still providing visibility into the kids play structure on the lower level. California native garden nooks thread throughout the space. We also planted native groundcover at the base of the hill, with the goal of creating a zone of erosion control and separating the family’s living space from the invasive ivy on the hill, which will be addressed at a future date.
We completed the front yard as phase 2.
