LANDSCAPE DESIGN & PLANNING
The foundation
Includes
- Space planning and layout development to test how everything fits and functions
- 3D modeling to explore options and test decisions
- Refined layouts customized for each property
- Quantities and specs for structures, assets, and materials
- CA Native planting program and irrigation plan
- Low-voltage LED lighting plan
- Local connections for installers, vendors, and landscape resources
- Buildable plans, perspectives, and written scope combined into one easy-to-use downloadable SpecBook
Outcome
A clear, buildable landscape design for accurate costing and confident installation.
Investment
Design services start at $2500.
Final design fee depends on property size, scope, and the level of planning needed to create a build-ready design.
Why design first?
The biggest portion of a landscape budget is installation — so it pays to plan before construction begins. Design is the upfront investment to prevent mistakes like:
- A pool without enough room to swim laps
- A pergola that crowds the space
- A kitchen too far from the house
- Planting that doesn’t meet privacy goals
Design is the lowest-cost way to get the biggest decisions right — before construction begins.
The first step is a quick call to talk through your space, priorities, and budget range.
Client-first design.
While we do recommend and work with local installers, we don’t mark up construction or take commissions — your design is created to work with the team you choose.
LANDSCAPE INSTALLATION SUPPORT
Once the design is complete, some projects benefit from optional support during installation.
Contractor Alignment (CA)
Preparing for installation
Best fit for projects with multiple trades, detailed hardscape, or complex layouts where early alignment prevents downstream issues.
Includes
- On-site design walkthrough with you and your selected installer
- Review of the approved design, layout intent, and key relationships
- Clarification of transitions, alignments, grades, and coordination points
- Review of materials, interfaces, and any remaining open decisions
- Written alignment summary to confirm decisions and next steps
Outcome
A clear, coordinated start to installation — with fewer assumptions and everyone working from the same understanding.
Investment
Based on project complexity.
Contractor Alignment + Installation Design Oversight (CA + IDO)
Design support during the installation
Best fit for more complex projects where real-world conditions affect how the design is interpreted and built.
Includes
- Contractor Alignment before work begins
- Design guidance at key installation milestones
- On-site clarification when field conditions require adjustment
- Support with proportions, alignments, and spatial relationships as work progresses
- Guidance where planting decisions affect layout, flow, and long-term performance
- Coordination input when multiple trades or sequences intersect
Outcome
The overall structure, flow, and intent of the design stay intact as the project is built.
Investment
Scoped based on project complexity and level of support needed.
