This project was designed to be a Third Place in downtown area of Oakland, an area that is undergoing transformation from abandoned to renewed. We were given the choice of developing a kitchen store, a bookstore, or a florist. I chose handcrafted paperflowers, calling my project FLOWERCRAFT. I loved the dark, bar-like vibe of the space and the story of the entrepreneurs behind it. My instructor did not. He thought it was too whimsical and too complicated. Taking that criticism into account, I resubmitted the proposal for Downtown Oakland’s Third Place as BONEFLOWER, which you can see here.
